TWIFcomp entries are online; voting opens.

Entries in TWIFcomp are now posted on this website. There were 61 entries in all. Voting on these entries will remain open until 16:00 GMT on Saturday, May 1, 2010. To vote, send me a list of game titles and a rating from 1 (terrible) to 10 (perfect). It would make it easier on me if everyone would enter their ratings on a score sheet, which is provided in excel format. Winners will be announced on Sunday, May 2, and prizes will be mailed out the next day.

TWIFcomp is a competition for short (at most 140 non-white space character) interactive fiction. The background and full rules are posted online (English, French, Russian). This competition intentionally targeted a wide variety of platforms and languages, and you are encouraged to try out the games, even if it means downloading an unfamiliar interpreter, typing on the command line (yikes!), or running some text through Google translate.

I received many more entries than I had anticipated, and have tried to make them all accessible through this website. In the interest of getting the games up quickly, I am not waiting until the website looks perfect -- I'm activating it now, and I'll polish it as time permits. If anyone notices any errors or wants to modify their entry, please let me know by email. Everyone is encouraged to comment (politely) on individual games. I will try to moderate these comments as quickly as possible. Finally, I have a few games in the comp, but will not count votes on those games.

Thanks to everyone for entering!

Is there an RSS feed for comments?

RSS comment feed

Yes -- if I did things correctly, there should now be RSS feeds on each page, and on comments.

The main comment feed is: http://dhakajack.templaro.com/crss

The rss feed for items tagged "TWIFcomp" will all use the feed: http://dhakajack.templaro.com/crss/term/67

If you try, please let me know that it works.

Thanks,

Also

Also would be very nice of you to make a zip archive with all the games.

One big zip

That's a good idea. I'm going to give it a day or two, though, to see if there are any other comments regarding the files on the server. If not, I'll make a zip of everything in the download directory.

Zip file with source codes

If you do make the zip file (please do!), then could you include the source code as well? Reading it is as fun as playing the games!

The sheet is incomplete

There's no "Make all sad", for example

scoring sheet

I changed the title on "Make All Sad", and have changed the score sheet to match the website. If anyone scored it under the previous name, it's not a problem.

Many of the download links

Many of the download links seem to broken. Also, when playing the Inform games online, the RESTART command doesn't seem to work.

Fixing links

I'm running around, trying to make sure the links work. In some cases, I had to change the file extensions for some executable scripts, which would otherwise have been treated differently by the server. If you run into specific cases of a link not working, let me know and I'll try to fix it. As I said, I'm trying to get this site up quickly, and my website development team is very limited (since it is only me).

As for the RESTART not working, I'm not sure if that's a limitation of the site or of the interpreter that I'm using behind the scenes. A practical work around would be to hit the "refresh" button on the broswer. That should reset the page and start the game up again.

New Parchment code

Hey Jack,

I actually just fixed the restart code a few minutes ago. Get the replacement code from: http://github.com/curiousdannii/parchment/archives/mastertemp

I wish I'd had the chance to enter... I had a couple of ideas but didn't have time to work on them. Maybe I'll post them up anyway.

Parchment updates

That's great news. I had started looking around last night to see if other sites had the same issue with restart and I was getting ready to file a bug report.

I'm swamped at work right now, so I'm not sure I'll be able to implement this tonight, but at least in the next couple days.

Thanks for putting out the revision.

- Jack
